After Hurricane Zeta made landfall near Cocodrie, Louisiana, on Wednesday afternoon, it raced towards Alabama and left thousands without power in addition to damage in the form of downed trees and debris.

The Category 2 storm also caused damage to two Autauga County schools, Prattville High and Prattville Intermediate School. The awning damaged by the storm was removed early Thursday, but the school's gym now has a gaping hole in the cement siding, Superintendent Spence Agee said.

Nearly half a million residents are without power. The most outages were reported in Montgomery County, according to an Alabama Power spokesperson.

Damage reports on social media show impacts to Mobile, Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island and more.
